When I was a child I couldn’t swim very well, and never particularly enjoyed lessons. I got thrown in at the deep end (quite literally) at the age of 10, and began training at my local swimming club in Epsom, Surrey, where I quickly moved up through the squads. After years of training six times a week and spending most weekends at swimming galas, reaching county level competitions, I stepped back from competing.
I began teaching at the age of 14, starting as a helper in the water before taking my ASA Level 1 teaching qualification at the age of 15, and Level 2 at the age of 16.
Throughout the years I’ve taught in numerous private swim schools across London and Surrey, and multiple independent Preparatory schools. I have managed swim schools and provided training to both newly qualified and established teachers. In 2018 I moved to New Zealand for just under a year to restructure a learn to swim programme at an independent swim school in Auckland. I am now a fully-qualified tutor, allowing me to train and qualify the next generation of swimming instructors through the STA.
When the opportunity to move to Norfolk and start my own swim school arose, I couldn’t turn the opportunity down. Aquology has now been running for 2 years, with over 140 private clients and 4 local schools attending regular lessons. I hope you all enjoy the lessons as much as I enjoy teaching them!
I am a mum of 3 (15, 13 and 5 years). I have attended different swimming lessons with all of my children through the years, witnessing a variety of teaching. I thoroughly enjoyed attending parent and baby lessons with my youngest, Elysia, and the strong bond it helped us build. Elysia became extremely water confident at a very young age and I loved seeing her smile and progress through the lessons. She eventually outgrew her parent and baby lessons, which is how I found Aquology.
Prior to having children and becoming a stay at home mum, I worked as a nursery nurse. When Elysia became of school age I knew I needed to look for work. I still wanted to work with children, but wasn’t sure if I wanted that to be in a childcare setting.
After watching Elysia’s confidence grow tenfold with Becky, I remembered just how much I enjoyed our own lessons together, which is when I decided I wanted to become a parent and baby instructor.
I absolutely love my job – helping other parents to experience the bond we build through our lessons. Watching the babies grow, develop and gain confidence is so rewarding.
I'm the eldest of 4 siblings. I’ve always had a connection with young children - even my teachers at school have mentioned this to me. My name is on the list at any opportunity to help out at the primary school. I would love to continue to work with children once I have finished school, especially those with special educational needs.
I love teaching alongside Becky, expanding my knowledge and skills of how to teach swimming and build a child’s confidence in the water. I practise at home with my siblings, blowing bubbles and kicking our legs. It’s such a rewarding job, and I am keen to continue my journey and gain my qualifications in teaching swimming.
I look forward to seeing you all at the pool and helping your children on their swimming journey.
I have a younger brother, and lots of baby cousins. I’ve always been drawn to helping with children at family gatherings or at school events, specifically younger children. For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to be a primary school teacher for younger years, which is why I organised my work experience to be at a primary school. I had so much fun - it was amazing as I got to see an insight into my potential future career.
Working alongside Becky has helped me gain a lot of confidence and a better understanding of how to communicate with the children. I love seeing the same faces from week to week, watching their own confidence grow and building a bond with them.
I look forward to seeing you all at the pool!
